Designproject 2015-16

Jengarobot.2

Introduction of the project:

As a course requirement for ‘Design Project’ , teams of three students in the second Bachelor year of industrial engineering were assigned with the task to build a robot. The robot has to be controlled by the students in a competition against each other. The competition is Jenga. Each robot should be able to remove a wooden block from the tower and lay the block on top of the tower. Besides, the teams had to learn how to work with all the machinery and materials provided by Fablab Brussels.
At the beginning, brainstorming about the project is vital. Conferring with teammates is essential to perform a coherent and well-structured work. After long hours of discussion, a consensus was reached and building the robot could begin. The first requirement was to put theoretical knowledge into practice. The knowledge acquired in the courses of electronics, mechanics and informatics had to be combined. The purpose of this combination was to produce a well synchronized process in the three fields of competence. By using this method, delays could be avoided. Multiple discussion took place in order to update each other on the status of all the processes. The three processes are involved in the field of mechanics, electronics and informatics.
